Halloween Season is Here
Halloween Season is here. The blog has been updated, the house has been decorated, and the spooky-themed blog posts can begin. The month of October has always been one of my favorites because of Halloween. Here's what I love about it.
After a warm, bright, and busy summer, it's nice to have a time to embrace the cooler, darker, and calmer things. It's not Darkness that I like; it's just the darker color tones and their more subtle energy that I enjoy. For example, I use Dark Theme on almost all of my devices and app settings. Dark Theme isn't evil. It's just easier on the eyes.
The Spooky Things
I love the decorations, the colors, and the scary stuff. But I don't love the evil stuff. I don't like actual horror. I like the monster hunters, the vampire slayers, and the stories of good vs evil.
During this season, I don't celebrate the monsters. Instead, I celebrate our admission that there are monsters in this world, and that our struggle is against them. Halloween brings out all the monsters and shows them in their true form as ugly, abhorrent, and murderous abominations. Acknowledging their existence is the first step to overcoming them.
The Deadly Things
Halloween season also reminds us of our mortality. Ghosts, zombies, and skeletons all serve as awesome villains in movies and video games. But they also serve as reminders of our own fates, and more importantly, they remind of our true fates: life after death. The undead creatures that abound in October bring our attention to the fact that our lives persist even after our deaths. We aren't to be afraid of death, but of our fates after our deaths.
I'm a Christian, and we Christians are told not to fear death by Jesus Himself. From Mathew 10:28, "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell."
Halloween is a time where we are reminded that our bodies are limited. We need to therefore take account of our actions and examine our hearts, and we need to surrender to Christ.
The Darker Things
After a warm, bright, and busy summer, it's nice to have a time to embrace the cooler, darker, and calmer things. It's not Darkness that I like; it's just the darker color tones and their more subtle energy that I enjoy. For example, I use Dark Theme on almost all of my devices and app settings. Dark Theme isn't evil. It's just easier on the eyes.
