Humans Change Clocks, Dogs Most Affected

This Monday morning, my dog could hardly believe I was asking her to go on a walk an hour early. Normally thrilled to be going on an excursion, she was instead already in bed again when I went to grab her leash after putting on her harness. She reluctantly followed me and my wife outside, not understanding why we were in such a rush.

She could hardly move her legs. She refused to head down the street toward a "longer" walk. And she didn't even realize she was on a walk until we were about halfway home. She wasn't the only one, either; other dogs in the area were noticeably groggy and sluggish, and I heard a Husky cry out in a painful howl to complain about being woken up so early.

It dawned on me that humans don't respect time. Dogs obey time, but they also obey us. So they will follow us even when we commit the folly of literally altering the spacetime continuum in order to keep the sun in the air a bit longer. Extra daylight is a weird reason for moving time around - I guess daylight savings was invented before the lightbulb.

Maybe one day, humans will solve the problem of the Sun. But until then, I guess we'll have to put up with annual sleep deprivation.
