The Batman
The Batman (2022) is a great film. I went into the movie knowing little about it, but from the footage I had seen in the trailers I expected it to be a little closer to The Joker. It ended up being very similar tonally and aesthetically to that film, and it was fantastic because of it.
The Batman is less of a Superhero Movie and more like more like a PG-13 Silence of the Lambs. It's a story about a man trying to solve a series of murders being committed by a serial killer. In this movie, Batman takes Sherlock's vocation as a Consulting Detective to the Police and actively works alongside them to solve these crimes. While he does check off the list of Things Batman Does, this movie doesn't feel like it's trying too hard to be a Batman movie. Instead, it focuses on one of Batman's most famous attributes: his detective skills. This movie tests Batman's wits more than his brawn, and in the age of Superhero Movies being absolutely ridiculous, it's a refreshing take on the genre.
