I'm sometimes torn between my love of coding and my love of languages. I hadn't realized until today just how interesting NLP could be. The entire field is an interesting combination of linguistics and computer science. There is a strong chance that I will start learning NLP as a new side project, but I'll see how I feel in a few days. From the brief introduction I had, I think it's a fascinating field full of interesting problems requiring a deep understanding of language and a capacity for code. I'm at least guaranteed to look into the matter further. Even though I've studied many languages, I haven't actually formalized it with an introduction to linguistics, and so that seems like both a decent first step in the right direction and a fulfilling pastime.
